Vitamin D is actually a pro-hormone (and not a vitamin) and affects many, many processes in the body. Our position so far from the equator makes us high risk for vitamin D deficiency. Optimizing your vitamin D levels is crucial for good health.

Watch and listen to this 60 minute video on vitamin D from Dr. Mercola. There are 7 parts to this video. Use this link if you're having trouble accessing all 7 parts. You can also cut and paste http://www.mercola.com/article/vitamin-d-resources.htm into your browser to find the video.

BodyBlitzers, take the Vitamin D Quiz after watching the video to earn 10 points.

Learned a great deal, but some parts were very confusing and the slides weren't always helpful. Would like to read the main points without all of the parenthetical statements and qualifiers (e.g. I arranged my life to snow board and be in the tropics; *why* commercial tanning beds use one type of bulb & not another (it's news that profit is a motivator?)--how about just saying simply and directly the type that one wants to find?). Had to listen to some parts 2 or 3 times and still was confused about numbers.

I've been following Dr. Mercola a little bit, as he has been noted on Dr. Oz's show. I do believe that taking Vitamin D this past winter did improve my focus, energy and such...

I found the 7 segments very informative- as someone with a fair complexion I now know that I have to balance sunscreen and sun exposure closely. Did I understand Dr. Mercola to advocate not using sunscreen as much?

Great information! I've always believed a reasonable amount of sun exposure is a good thing. I didn't realize there were different types of Vitamin D or that dosing was so important though.

Last week I had blood work done as part of my annual physical. I just got back the results this week. The 25-OHD3 number came back as 51. When I had started with Dr. Jen back in February, I also had a complete set of blood work done in mid-February. The interesting thing was that when I had the first set my score for 25-OHD3 was 66.8. I haven't changed the dosage of D3 supplements. I'm curious whether the disparity could caused by the nutritional supplements that I've been using with Dr. Jen could be impacting the score? I will ask her about this but it's still curious.

Essential information everyone in the upper midwest and canada should be made aware of! my thoughts turned to an acquaintance who was recently diagnosed with cancer--I'm curious how vitamin D might be used in her treatment process. Looking forward to my follow-up with Dr. Jen this week to get my D3 levels checked.
